Artists Vision
Atang Tshikare wanted to create a large-scale wall-mounted piece titled “Hui ! Gaeb” (meaning “where the clouds gather” in Khoi-San language).

His vision draws on Cape Town’s port city identity, the cloud-veil on Table Mountain, and the movement and gathering of vessels and people.

He wanted a form that felt expansive, lightweight, dynamic – not heavy and fixed – and wanted to leverage digital manufacturing to realize something beyond conventional sculptural methods.
Our Solution
Crayon Artel guided the artist from concept to installation. We engineered a modular digital workflow that broke the piece into over 1,000 printable segments, each lightweight yet durable.

Our team managed modeling, slicing, assembly, finishing, and wall-mount engineering — delivering a full 3m structure ready for display within 17 days.
Technical Specs
Material: PLA
Country of Origin: South Africa
Size: 3m length
Technique: 3D printed + assembled by hand
Design & Development Process
Crayon Artel collaborated directly with Atang through rapid digital iteration. Using shared moodboards, renders, and CAD slicing maps, we refined structure, joints, and finish in constant feedback loops.

Digital previewing allowed us to finalize geometry, alignment, and mounting before production — shortening development time and ensuring artistic fidelity.
Production & Install
Crayon Artel oversaw printing, finishing, and on-site installation at Time Out Market V&A Waterfront.

Over 1,000 modules were assembled, finished, and painted before being mounted 4m above ground.
Testimonial
“Thanks to Crayon Artel, I’m now actively exploring the largely untapped potential of 3D printing techniques to produce sculptural artworks.”
